CONSTITUTION:The objective 1,6-di(N-p-chlorophenylbiguanide)hexane is produced by adding 1,6-di(N-p-chlorophenylbiguanide)hexane dihydrochloride to a (water-containing) lower alcohol and adding >=1.8mol, preferably 1.8-3mol (based on 1mol of the dihydrochloride) of an alkali metal hydroxide or its aqueous solution to the above mixture under refluxing. The alcohol concentration of the lower alcohol is preferably 40-95wt.%. The process is industrially advantageous. The product is useful as an antibacterial agent extremely effective to Grampositive and Gram-negative bacteria and as an antiseptic agent.
