description PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform periodic magnetic field of large strength by a construction wherein magnetic fields of which the directions are inverted alternately are excited by a plurality of resonant cavities arranged in the direction of advance of charged particles and coupling of the adjacent resonant cavities is prevented without disturbing passage of the charged particles. CONSTITUTION:A high-frequency wave generated by a high-frequency power source 7 is sent to phase regulators 8, the phase thereof is regulated thereby and waves thus obtained are supplied to relevant resonant cavities 4 by waveguides 9 respectively. When the cavities 4 receive these high-frequency waves, magnetic fields are excited inside of them by modes having magnetic field components in the direction perpendicular to the surface of this paper. On the occasion, the directions of the magnetic fields excited in the adjacent cavities 4 are inverted to each other. On the other hand, a slit 6 is cut in the direction of disturbing a surface current flowing along the inner walls of the cavities, between the adjacent cavities 4, and thereby coupling of the adjacent cavities 4 with each other is prevented without disturbing passage of an electron 1. A beam of the electron 1 of high energy is made to enter the arranged cavi ties 4 wherein such magnetic fields as stated above are formed inside.
