description PURPOSE:To make it possible to conduct a conductor number identifying operation efficiently irrespective of a state of use of an object cable by delivering time-sharing pulse signals collectively to discrete conductors of a cable on the transmission side and by bringing a sensor into contact with an arbitrary conductor coating for detection on the reception-side. CONSTITUTION:A transmitter T delivers a detection control signal L to a receiver R through a communication line (LINE) for the control signal and delivers simultaneously pulse signals from output terminals 1 to N so as to superpose them on discrete conductors of a cable CA to be identified. In order to repeat the pulse signals periodically, on the occasion, the last pulse RE is made to have a width twice as large as each pulse width and thereby each circuit is restored. The number found at the time when the signal L and the pulse signals of 1 to N delivered at every one period become synchronous with a pulse signal detected by bringing the fore ends (P1, P2) on one side of a sensor into contact with the coating of the cable to be identified is displayed digitally as a conductor number of the cable. It is also possible to discriminate polarity by shifting pulses of L1 and L2.
