Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To detect the total image of an object to be measured by placing a photoelectric converting means at the terminal end of an optical system which reflects parallel lights from a light source so that said parallel lights intersect each other, and placing said object to be measured at the central position where said parallel lights intersect. CONSTITUTION:A light from a light source 20 is made in parallel beam by a lens 21, reflected by reflecting mirrors 22, 23 and projected onto a CCD line sensor 25 by a lens 24. An object to be measured is placed at the position where the parallel beams intersect. The object is detected by a plurality of the parallel beams. A portion of the object having the maximum outer diameter forms an image on the CCD line sensor 25. Therefore, even if the object has no true circular cross-section, the maximum diameter thereof can be detected.
