description PURPOSE:To efficiently analyze a sentence including idioms by adding the idiom finding processing and the analysis processing regarding an idiom as one word to the syntax analysis processing of the Tomita system. CONSTITUTION:A processing loop executed for each word is provided with the processing which detects idioms which have the center word of the processing as the start and are included in an idiom dictionary as idiom candidates which are probably included in an input sentence, the processing which discriminates whether idioms having the center word of the processing as the last are included in idiom candidates or not and detects idioms included in the input sentence based on discrimination results, and the processing which allows idiom candidates having the center word of the processing in a prescribed place other than the last to remain as they are but removes the other idiom candidates. Syntax analysis is performed based on parts of speech obtained by regarding each detected idiom as one word. Thus, the sentence including idioms is efficiently and properly subjected to syntax analysis.
