description PURPOSE:To obtain the high quality of focusing from the shortest distance to infinity by switching focusing by active range-finding, focusing by passive range-finding after a focusing action by the active range-finding or focusing by direct passive range-finding in accordance with active range-finding data. CONSTITUTION:A distance to an object 16 is measured by an active range- finding system 11 and the focusing action is executed by an active range-finding system 11 when the data is within a specified distance range. When it is out of the specified distance range, a difference between the active range-finding data and the present lens position data is obtained. When the obtained difference is smaller than the set deviation, the passive range-finding system 12 is allowed to execute the focusing action. When the difference is larger than the set deviation, the focusing action is executed by the passive range-finding system 12 after a focusing action based on the active range-finding data.
