CONSTITUTION: A direction changing roll 5 performs reciprocating motion in the rotational directions 7a and 7b in corresponding with a recording head carriage 1 performing reciprocating motion in the directions 6a and 6b. The direction changing roll 5 is rotatably supported in a carrier casing 8. The direction changing roll 5 transmits a driving force only in one direction of the rotational directions 7a and 7b. This intermittent driving force is generated by means of a clutch 9 of an inked-ribbon drive shaft 10 for an inked-ribbon cassette. An intermediate gear 19 can be reciprocatedly slid against the force of a one arm-like spring 22 by its bearing journal in a longer and circular arcuate guide member 20 to form the clutch 9 thereby. Movements in the movement directions 23a and 23b generate action of the clutch 9.
