description PURPOSE:To keep stable contact between a magnetic tape and a head and hence to obtain a stable signal output even at the transition time of the tape transfer state from the forward direction to the backward direction by oscillating forcibly an oscillatory idler gear with external power. CONSTITUTION:At the transition time from the forward transfer state to the reverse transfer state, first of all, a capstan motor 2 is stopped and a mode changeover motor 3 is rotated clockwise. Then, the motor 2 is reversely rotated after moving forcibly the idler gear 7 from the right side of an idle gear 8t to the left side of an idle gear 8S via a relay gear and a cantilever 30. Consequently, a reel base 9S is rotatively driven via a gear 8S immediately upon the reverse rotation of the motor 2, and the magnetic tape 10 can undergo the transition to the reverse tape transfer state keeping in stable contact with the head without lowering its tension due to an on/off operation of a pinch roller 4.
