METHOD FOR SEALING CELL AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To perform sealing at a low cost and with high reliability by covering the mouth edge of a container and thereafter, flowing an electric current between the container and battery cover while an extended portion is pushed to weld the extended portion and the mouth edge. CONSTITUTION:A temporarily sealed cell is fitted in the recess 12 of a receiving jig 11, and then, a push jig 14 is made to discend such that a ring cylindrical portion 15 installed on the lower face of a push jig 14 pushes the junction of a cell container 1 and a cell cover 5. In this condition, when a current is supplied between the receiving jig 11 and the push jig 14 in this condition, Joule heat is generated and the metal at the junction is molten and the junction is welded. In this case, the junction is certainly fixed by a pushing force of the push jig 14 so that it is possible to perform welding free from such a trouble as misregistration and with high reliability. Moreover, a cooling means is formed in the receiving jig 11 and a push jig 14 so that it is possible to realize high speed welding free from influence of a high temperature generated at the time of welding. Thereby, the sealing operation at a low cost and with high reliability can be performed.
