CONSTITUTION:The chipped scrap wood 1 contg. harmful matter such as Cu is sent into an incinerator 2 by a conveyor, etc., and burned. The formed ash is supplied to a blender 4, then transferred to a drier 6 along with the copper ore 5, and charged into a flash smelting furnace 7. Since the furnace 7 is filled with an oxidizing atmosphere and held at a high-temp. of about 1400 deg.C, the Cu in the ash forms Cu2S-FeS along with the Cu in the ore 5, and is recovered as crude copper in a convertor 8. Although a part of Cr forms harmful hexavalent Cr during incineration, all the Cr is converted to trivalent Cr, fixed in slag, and discharged from a slag cleaning furnace 9.
