A tri(lower alkoxy)benzene derivative represented by general formula (I), its salt, its optically active isomer, its solvate, a medicinal composition containing the same, and a process for the production thereof, wherein R , R and R may be the same or different from one another and each represents lower alkyl; A represents (a) or (b); and R and R may be the same or different from each other and each represents lower alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, or alternatively R and R may be combined with each other to form, together with the adjacent nitrogen atom, pyrrolidinyl, piperidino, morpholino, thiomorpholino, or piperazino which may be substituted with lower alkyl at the 4-position. This compound is useful as a secretagogue for pulmonary surfactants.
