PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image sensor unit which can be easily assembled, an image reader, and a paper-sheet kind identification device.SOLUTION: The image sensor unit includes a plurality of light sources 52 each including an LED chip 54, a plurality of light guide bodies whose incident surfaces on one side in a longitudinal direction are arranged in parallel to face the plurality of light sources 52 respectively and guiding light from the plurality of light sources 52 to a bill, an image sensor converting the light from the bill into an electrical signal, a sensor substrate on which the image sensor is mounted, and a circuit board in which the plurality of light sources 52 are mounted on the same mounting surface 61 and which is arranged on the sensor substrate on one side in the longitudinal direction of the plurality of light guide bodies.
