A process control device executes communication between devices and control, realizes a smart field device standard and a bus-based architecture standard other than the smart field device standard such that standard control operation will be transparent for a user, and realizes and executes a control function defined by a standard set of a functional block or a standard protocol so that standard control will be achieved regarding a non-standard device. In addition, at the time of device connection, a device is automatically detected and configured by using database configuration information without setting node address information on a physical switch or device.
