PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desalination apparatus and a method for controlling a desalination apparatus each capable of mitigating electric power consumption while observing product water standards.SOLUTION: The provided desalination apparatus 3 includes: a high-pressure pump 10; a first reverse osmotic membrane module 20; a first mixing line L1; a low-pressure pump 30; a second reverse osmotic membrane module 40; a second mixing line L2; a first flow meter 51; a first regulating valve 52; a second flow meter 61; a second regulating valve 62; an electroconductivity meter 70; a third flow meter 80; and a control unit 110. The control unit 110 acquires sets of information respectively on the electroconductivity of the product water measured by the electroconductivity meter 70, the flow rate of the low-concentration permeated water measured by the first flow meter 51, the flow rate of the low-concentration permeated water measured by the second flow meter 61, and the flow rate of the product water measured by the third flow meter 80 and adjusts the electric power consumption of the low-pressure pump 30 and the flow rate and electroconductivity of the product water by controlling, based on the sets of information thus acquired, the respective operations of the low-pressure pump 30, first regulating valve 52, and second regulating valve 62.
