Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material having high capacity and a secondary battery including the negative electrode active material.SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material includes an Si-metal alloy including Si. The Si-metal alloy contains the Si at a content of 66 at% or lower, and at least a part of the Si is crystalline Si. The negative electrode active material, while providing a battery having high capacity, has a small expansion in volume even in a charge/discharge process, thereby capable of maintaining high capacity, and is excellent in life characteristics. The negative electrode active material may include an Si-metal alloy including crystalline Si having a crystal grain size of 30 nm or less.
