Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide assays providing high sensitivity and high specificity for molecular indicia of cancer in heterogeneous samples.SOLUTION: A method includes the assays for markers indicative of cancer or precancer. The assays are performed on samples obtained from a patient by non-invasive or minimally-invasive methods. The invention provides nucleic acid indicia of cancer or precancer with high sensitivities and high specificities for detection. The method provides the benefits of high sensitivity and high specificity in an assay to detect a small amount of a cancer marker (e.g., a nucleic acid) in a heterogeneous sample having predominantly non-cancerous cells and cellular debris. Accordingly, such methods are especially useful for early detection of cancer or precancer.
