Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dial type shift device which prevents a shift range from being changed despite intentions when an operator performs an unintended operation, without enlarging the device.SOLUTION: The shift device 10 of a vehicle 1 has a control unit 11 that changes a shift range to be selected among serially arranged shift positions P, R, N, D, L, depending on a rotation angle s and a rotation direction of a shift operation member 14 in one operation detected by a rotary encoder 15. The control unit 11 limits the number of shift ranges to be changed, depending on the sign of a counter value C (rotation direction) and the currently selected shift position (ST23: Yes), and selects not an L range but a D range (ST33) when, for instance, from the N position, the counter value C that shows the number of shift ranges for one operation is 2 or more (ST28: No).
