PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image utilization type authentication method for improving security more than in the conventional case without deteriorating operability.SOLUTION: An image utilization type authentication method includes: an image display step of displaying a plurality of images 32a-32g for authentication on a screen of a smart phone; an operation acceptance step of accepting operations to the images for authentication by a user of the smart phone; and an authentication step of executing authentication based on patterns of the operations accepted in the operation acceptance step and preliminarily registered patterns, in the image display step, the images for authentication are moved on the screen when an operation for moving the images for authentication on the screen is accepted in the operation acceptance step, in the authentication step, an operation that the image 32c for authentication is moved and brought into contact with the image 32e for authentication is distinguished from an operation that the image 32e for authentication is moved and brought into contact with the image 32c for authentication in the pattern to be treated.
