Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element of a fringe field switching mode, which has high light transmittance during driving and in which a display defect does not occur.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display element has a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of substrates. A common electrode, an insulation layer, a signal electrode, and a liquid crystal alignment film are formed in this order on a surface of one of the pair of substrates on the liquid crystal layer side. The liquid crystal layer includes positive type liquid crystal. The liquid crystal alignment film has a pretilt angle of 0.2° or less.
