Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition for a water-based ballpoint pen that achieves sufficient density of drawing lines even when using a thermochromic microcapsule pigment with a small average particle size and has excellent storage stability and writing performance of ink, and a water-based ballpoint pen. SOLUTION: The ink composition for a water-based ballpoint pen at least contains: a microcapsule pigment with the average particle size of 0.1-1.0 μm and with the wall membrane formed from an amino resin; and a chemical substance, a polymer having a ketone as a main chain, having an acid functional group in chemical structure and an acid value of 3-40 (mg-KOH/g).
