Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome various problems occurring due to deviation in discharge amounts caused by the tolerance of high pressure pumps in a fuel injection system having a plurality of high pressure pumps. SOLUTION: The problems are overcome by the method of obtaining an amount indicating a difference in discharge amounts of the high pressure pumps by turning on and off the high pressure pumps at least temporarily during operation of the internal combustion engine, and adapting the discharge amounts so that fuel amounts discharged by each of the high pressure pumps become substantially equal with each other, depending on a control amount of a discharge amount control device.
