PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately determine and detect the amount of remaining solid lubricant. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 includes a lubricant applying device 1 which applies a solid lubricant to a surface of an intermediate transfer belt 101 on which toner is deposited. The lubricant applying device 1 includes: a lubricant roller 10 which integrally includes a cylindrically molded solid lubricant 12 in an outer peripheral part of a roller shaft 11; a roller support means 20 which rotatably supports the lubricant roller 10 and applies the solid lubricant to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 101 while rotating the lubricant roller 10 by direct press-contact with the intermediate transfer belt 101; a rotation detection means 30 which detects rotation number or a rotation speed of the lubricant roller 10; and a residual amount determination means 40 which determines the amount of lubricant remaining on the lubricant roller 10, on the basis of the rotation number or the rotation speed of the lubricant roller 10, which is detected by the rotation detection means 30.
