Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device whose color can be easily adjusted and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The light emitting device includes a light emitting element mounted on a substrate and a phosphor layer including a phosphor excited with light emitted by the light emitting element to emit fluorescence. The phosphor layer is provided with a removable trimming part at one or more places. This device can have its chromaticity easily adjusted by removing trimming parts. Namely, the light emitting element is made to emit light and chromaticity of mixed light by the fluorescence and the light emission of the light emitting element is measured to find a chromaticity shift amount which is a difference between the found chromaticity and predetermined chromaticity. The number of trimming parts to be removed corresponding to the found chromaticity shift amount is determined by reference to the previously found relation between the number of trimming parts to be removed and the chromaticity shift amount, and the determined number of trimming parts are removed from the phosphor layer to shift the chromaticity to a predetermined value.
