DEVICE AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING THICKNESS AND CURLING OF SHEET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for dynamically determining the curling and thickness of a sheet. SOLUTION: The device (100) includes a medium path (116) for carrying a medium sheet, a first nip (102) consisting of opposed rollers (110, 112) for moving the medium sheet along the medium path in a processing direction, a second nip (104) consisting of opposed rollers (120, 122), and arranged in the medium path for receiving the medium sheet from the first nip, a third nip (106) consisting of opposed rollers (130, 132), and arranged in the medium path for receiving the medium sheet from the second nip, a sensor (108) arranged between the second nip and the third nip for sensing the position of the medium sheet, and a processor (118) operably connected to the sensor for automatically calculating the curling amount and thickness of the medium sheet in accordance with a difference between a predetermined position and the position of the medium sheet relative to the sensor when the medium sheet passes between the second nip and the third nip.
