PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relatively rapidly and inexpensively construct a virtual representation of a physical space.SOLUTION: A system analyzes at least one image of the physical space including a plurality of distinct visual features. At least one of the visual features is a predetermined marker having associated semantic information, and the associated semantic information is defined by a markup language which identifies a modality of a model and a rule to combine semantic information from a plurality of markers. The model is defined based on at least a part of the associated semantic information. The geometric features of the model may be defined by determining a posture of at least one predetermined marker in the physical space based on the associated semantic information and at least one determined posture of the predetermined marker.
