Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distribute fuels having different octane numbers without mixing them in a combustion chamber. SOLUTION: Two fuel injection valves are arranged at the center of the upper part of the combustion chamber so that their conical sprays have the same spraying angle and spraying center axis. In a predetermined octane number stratification mode, in the state that a swirl control valve imparts a swirl S into a cylinder, fuel F1 having a low octane number is injected for an early injection period and fuel Fh having a high octane number is injected for a late injection period. The low-octane-number fuel F1 and the high-octane-number fuel Fh are distributed in different radial regions because of a difference between the injection periods, and distributed in different peripheral regions with the swirl S.
