description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser-arc composite welding method for obtaining a satisfactory welded joint while evading inconvenience due to the arrangement of a backing material, even if a large gap is present between members to be welded, when a pair of members to be welded are subjected to welding and joining (composite welding) by laser welding and MIG arc welding or MAG arc welding. SOLUTION: In the laser-arc composite welding method where a pair of members to be welded are subjected to composite welding by laser welding and MIG arc welding or MAG arc welding, the backing material is arranged at a welding position, MIG arc welding or MAG arc welding is applied forward and laser welding ia applied afterward, and when welding is performed while laser beam irradiation and arc discharge are arranged on the same welding line, and also, the MIG arc welding or MAG arc welding is applied, the operation is performed using an (Ar+CO2) mixed gas having a mixing amount of CO2of >5 to 15 vol%.
