Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of displaying an image with easily viewable brightness and capable of reducing power consumption. SOLUTION: The display device 100 includes: a picture illuminance measurement unit 1 for measuring the picture illuminance Ei of a display device 15; a setting condition input unit 2 for input of the information of an observer of the display device 15 and the information of a visual distance L between the display device 15 and the observer; an operation unit 51 for finding out luminance at which the observer begins to feel glare based on the picture illuminance Ei and the information input to the setting condition input unit 2; a picture luminance control unit 7 for determining the maximum luminance of the display device 15 in a range which does not exceed the luminance found out by the operation unit 51; and a control signal generation unit 40 for generating a control signal for controlling the luminance of the display device 15 to the same luminance as the maximum luminance or luminance most close to the maximum luminance in a predetermined luminance range in which the efficiency of light emission of the display device 15 is high and controlling the luminance of the display device 15 by using the control signal.
