description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten required time of lighting inspection concerning a lighting inspection method and inspection display for a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: In order to determine the quality of a lighting state of the plasma display panel for color display use, frames consisting of a first sub-frame making all cells in a screen to be lit and a second sub-flame making all cells in the screen not to be lit are repeatedly displayed. To display the first sub-frame, a reset operation for lowering wall voltage of each cell in the screen, a whole-face lighting addressing operation of impressing scan pulses on one cell after another in line inside the screen with a plurality of address electrodes while being biased to a selected potential in bulk, and a sustaining operation of impressing a sustaining pulse on cells in the screen all at once are carried out. To display the second sub-frame, a reset operation, a whole-face non-lighting addressing operation of impressing scan pulses on one cell after another in line inside the screen with the plurality of address electrodes while being maintained at a non-selected potential in bulk, and a sustaining operation are carried out.
