description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking structure of a motor having a shock absorbing member between a locking ring and a locking lever, which improves reliability of a lock, and also to provide a transmission ratio variable steering system. SOLUTION: The locking structure of a transmission ratio change motor 22 has a resin or rubber elastic member 50 protruded from a part of metal engagement surfaces at the metal engagement surfaces 32A1, 32A of the locking lever 32. The elastic member 50 normally prevents the lock member 32 from coming into contact with the metal engagement surfaces 31A1, 32 A1 of an engagement recess 31A or the metal engagement surfaces 31A2, 32 A2 from coming into direct contact with each other and allows the metal engagement surfaces to come into direct contact with each other by being elastically deformed through external load torque applied to the transmission ratio change motor 22. This locking structure of the motor thereby strengthens the locking state of the transmission ratio change motor 22 more than the locking structure of the motor for allowing the locking lever 32 to be indirectly engaged with the engagement recess 31 A with the resin or rubber elastic member interposed therebetween.
