IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize satisfactory gradation with high image density in a high density part of an output image when carrying out image formation on a rough recording material in which differences between the recesses and projections of its recording surface are large. SOLUTION: A density gradation control is exerted for an image part where a gradation value based on image data is beyond a reference value. The density gradation control is exerted such that while the number of dots and dot area of a latent image per unit area are fixed, an amount of toner attached per unit area of the electrostatic latent image of one dot is altered according to the gradation value based on the image data. Area gradation control, which is different from the density gradation control, is executed for an image part where the gradation value based on the image data is below the reference value.
