SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium includes an undercoat layer on at least one surface of a nonmagnetic support, and at least a magnetic recording layer applied to the undercoat layer. A polyester resin produced from a material containing naphthalenedicarboxylic acid as a dicarboxylic acid component is applied onto the undercoat layer, and the applied layer on the undercoat layer has a total thickness of ≥0.01 μm and ≤1 μm.
