When this converted value becomes the working distance a manufacturer recommends, information on exchanging the head is displayed. As the amount of wear of the head into which the label size is considered can be estimated, information of the time for exchanging the head becomes precise. When the value obtained by multiplying the number of sheets of the labels issued by the wear coefficient set in accordance with the label size is used for the reference to estimate the amount of wear of the head, as in the case when a smaller label is used, wearing becomes faster than in the case when a larger size label is used, determination on the time of exchanging the thermal head is accordingly made faster.
