Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery, its manufacturing method, and a lithium secondary battery containing the same in which the negative electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery can provide the lithium secondary battery improved in capacity characteristics and cycle life characteristics. SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material contains a compound of the following chemical formula I. The average size of the particles of the compound is 50 nm to 30 μm, and the negative electrode active material has a ratio of diffraction intensity of (003) face and the diffraction intensity of (104) face when measured the X-ray diffraction intensity by CuKα as 1:1 to 1:0.01, and the increase in a specific surface area before and after charge and discharge of 5 times at 0.5°C is maximum 20 times or less. [Chemical formula] is Li1+xV1-x-yMyO2+z, in the formula, 0.01≤x≤0.5, 0≤y≤0.3, -0.2≤z≤0.2, M is selected from a group consisting of a transition metal, an alkali metal, an alkali earth metal, a semimetal, and a combination of these.
