description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composition for the oxychlorination of ethylene, whose use increases the conversion of ethylene and hydrogen chloride without reducing the selectivity for formation of 1,2-dichloroethane and without sticking particles of the catalyst composition to one another when used in a moving bed. SOLUTION: The catalyst composition comprises (a) 3-12 mass% copper as copper salt, (b) 0-3 mass% alkaline earth metal as alkaline earth metal salt, (c) 0-3 mass% alkali metal as alkali metal salt, and (d) 0.001-0.1 mass%, preferably 0.005-0.05 mass%, one or more metals selected from the group consisting of ruthenium, rhodium, osmium, iridium and platinum, and/or 0.0001-0.1 mass%, preferably 0.001-0.05 mass%, gold as corresponding metal salts or tetrachloroauric acid in the case of gold. The metal salts of such ratios are applied to a support. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
