Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical porous carbon particle powder which efficiently adsorbs substances to be adsorbed, and is excellent in flowability and packing property. SOLUTION: The spherical porous carbon particle powder has an average particle diameter of 1-30 μm, a BET specific surface area of 200-2,000 m2/g, an average pore diameter within the range of 0.5-2 nm, and a micro-pore volume of 0.05-0.4 mL/g. The spherical porous carbon particle powder is obtained by forming composite particles composed of carbon and a phenol resin being a bonding resin by subjecting phenols, aldehydes and a carbon particle powder to a polymerization reaction in an aqueous medium using a basic catalyst as an initiator, then subjecting the composite particles to solid-liquid separation, drying the composite particles, heat treating the dried composite particles within the temperature range of 500-1,000°C in an inert atmosphere to carbonize the phenol resins, and further subjecting the resulting particles to an activation treatment.
