Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internally-high-pressure type multistage compression rotary compressor discharging carbon dioxide refrigerant into a closed container and avoiding abnormally high pressure in the closed container. SOLUTION: The rotary compressor comprises first and second cylinders 38, 40 for respectively forming first and second rotating compression elements 32, 34, an intermediate partition plate 36 which intervenes between the cylinders 38, 40 and partitions the respective rotating compression elements 32, 34, and first and second rollers 46, 48 which are fitted in eccentric portions 42, 44 formed in a rotary shaft 16 and eccentrically rotate in the first and second cylinders 38, 40 respectively, wherein when a seal width between the intermediate partition plate 36 and an end face of the first roller 48 opposite thereto is represented as Ws and pressure in the closed container 12 at which refrigerant begins leaking between the intermediate partition plate 36 and the end face of the first roller 48 is represented as Pmax, Ws is set at a value immediately before an inflection point X where a degree of change of Pmax begins rapidly rising when Ws is being increased.
