description | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a wound healing agent that is mitogenic for vascular endothelial cells and consequently is useful in promoting angiogenesis (vasculogenesis) and reendothelialization of inner vascular surfaces as well as a method and means for producing a vascular endothelial cell growth factor by means of recombinant DNA technology. SOLUTION: Disclosed is an isolated DNA sequence encoding a vascular endothelial cell growth factor of mammals. Disclosed is a method for producing a vascular endothelial cell growth factor, wherein the method comprises the following steps of: (a) culturing a cell transformed by an expression vector comprising a DNA sequence encoding the amino acid sequence of the polypeptide chain of the vascular endothelial cell growth factor under a condition that the peptide can be expressed; (b) collecting the expressed polypeptide; and (c) forming a disulfide bond of the polypeptide chain.
