description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device for addressing a problem in an electronic clock requiring an external charging device having a connecting terminal wherein corrosion and dirt occur in the connecting terminal or the water resistance of the electronic clock itself is insufficient, and a problem in an electronic clock requiring an external charging device employing electromagnetic induction coupling wherein it cannot be recognized whether the object on the charged side is the electronic clock or another metallic body. SOLUTION: The electronic clock 2 is fixed so as to be sandwiched between the upper engaging section 10 and lower engaging section 11, thereby positioning the charging device 1 and the electronic clock body 2. In this state, an electronic clock side coil 26 faces a charging device side coil 35 to provide a transmittable/receivable state of power or the like, and a charging device side light receiving/emitting element 32 can communicate with an electronic clock side receiving/emitting element 25. After that, preliminary communication is performed, the charging device 1 recognizes that the electronic clock 2 is installed in a predetermined position of the charging device 1 based on the result, and the charging device 1 charges the electronic clock body 2 and communicates with it.
