SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a transfer conveyance means which carries a transfer paper 100 on a transfer belt 60 endlessly stretched over a driving roller 61 and a plurality of driven rollers 62-66, conveys it to a transfer area, and sequentially transfers toner images formed on a plurality of photoreceptor drums to the transfer paper 100 in the transfer area; a detection means detecting the image density and the displacement from the image pattern transferred to a recording material; and the cleaning means for cleaning the front side of the driven roller 62 sandwiching the transfer belt 60 at a position facing the detection means and the backside of the transfer belt 60, on the side brought into contact with the driven roller 63.
