description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heater control unit for exhaust gas sensor for switching to heater energization, for increasing temperature up to sensor activation temperature, by determining the run down of dew condensation water during heater energization, at a temperature lower than the sensor activation temperature, when the dew condensation water sticking to the sensor element of a linear air/fuel ratio sensor is present. SOLUTION: The electromotive voltage of a theoretical air-fuel ratio detection section of the sensor is monitored during the heater energization at a temperature lower than the sensor activation temperature, thus switching to the heater energization for increasing temperature to the sensor activation temperature when the electromotive voltage from the start of the heater energization or the amount of change in the electromotive voltage reaches a prescribed value or higher.
