description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recoil starter in which the orientation of a cross bar of a pull handle is automatically controlled to two ways or less when the pull handle is returned to a suspension position. SOLUTION: The recoil starter is equipped with a recoil rope to be pulled out to the exterior through an opening part 54 provided on a front plate 56 of a recoil starter housing 26, and a pull handle 58 attached to the recoil rope to be seated on the opening part 54 when it is in a suspension position. First and second guide faces 50 and 52 which are engaged to each other upon the pull handle 58 being seated on the opening part 54 are provided on the inner face of the opening part 54 and on the outer face of a shaft part 60 of the pull handle 58, respectively. The guide faces 50 and 52 are formed so that the outlines of each of the cross sections of the guide faces 50, 52 have rotational symmetry of 2 times or less around a shaft line 18 of the opening part 54, so that they engage with each other only when the cross bar 66 of the pull handle 58 faces the predetermined direction.
