SOLUTION: The scanner compatible with a book is configured to include only one optical system read means such as a CCD wherein an angle of a mirror for reflecting a light reflected from an original side is made variable so that the double sides can sequentially be scanned. The scanner is configured to include a special purpose optical system read means for reading a binding margin at a head part of the scanner. In the case of the scanner provided with two optical system read means such as CCDs, the scanner itself has two-left/right-split structured parts and can be configured to face read sides ordinarily reading 2-spread pages of a book with each other by turning the head of the scanner as a fulcrum.
