A level of intensity around a DVD player 1 is computed based on a detected signal from a photosensor 8, and compared with a threshold used as a reference and established beforehand to output to a sub picture data transformation portion 7. The sub picture data transformation portion 7 changes the luminance and color difference of the sub picture data according to the level of intensity computed by a intensity detection portion 13, and outputs it to a reproduced picture output portion 6.
