description | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing system which can easily perform focusing operation to various objects to be photographed having different contrast characteristics and to provide an imaging apparatus and a focal position detecting method using the same. SOLUTION: The automatic focusing system has an optical lens 101 including a focusing lens 101a for adjusting an image forming position at imaging, a lens driving means 109 for moving the focusing lens 101a and an imaging element 102 which carries out photoelectric conversion of the imaging, image formation of which is performed by the optical lens 101, and outputs an image signal. In the automatic focusing system, high frequency components are detected from the image signal obtained at a plurality of lens positions while moving the focusing lens 101a and further weighted average of the optical lens positions is obtained by weighting of reflecting magnitude of the high frequency components previously detected and obtained lens position is made a focusing point.
