SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the white-cast-iron-based forged roll comprises the steps of: casting a steel ingot having a particular composition, which is a material for the white-cast-iron-based forged roll; taking out the steel ingot right after having been solidified from a mold; temporarily holding it at a pearlite transformation temperature or lower to control the matrix of the steel ingot, which contains Widmanstaetten carbide in addition to globular carbide and ledeburite (eutectic carbide), into a pearlite structure; then heating the steel ingot to a usual forging temperature; forging it; and then spheroidizing-annealing it to clear up Widmanstaetten carbide.
