SOLUTION: In the molten iron tapping hole operating unit provided with a mud gun 1, a trough cover before tapping hole 3, a hole opening device 2 and a tapping hole operating unit control and calculating unit, when the tapping hole is closed by driving the mud gun, the present position of the mud gun at the shifting time from the upper place of the tapping trough of the trough cover before tapping hole to a retreat position is detected to obtain the shifting speed and further, a time for coming out of a turning locus of the mud gun is predicted, and based on this prediction, the mud gun automatically starts the turning at the timing so as not to collide with the trough cover before tapping hole to close the tapping hole. Further, when the tapping hole is opened by driving the hole opening device, after completing the hole opening, the shifting speed is obtained from the present position at the turning time from the hole opening position of the hole opening device to the retreat position and a time for coming out of the shifting range of the trough cover before tapping hole is predicted, and based on this prediction, the trough cover before tapping hole automatically starts the shifting at the timing so as not to collide with the hole opening device to cover a molten iron tapping trough.
