An abutting section 45b abutting on the sheet is disposed on the abutting member 45, a predetermined angle is formed between an upstream-side sheet conveying passage R1 disposed on the upstream side in the sheet conveying direction of the abutting section 45b and a conveying direction of the sheet P conveyed with the abutting member 45 pressed. Thus, when the sheet P travels through the upstream-side sheet conveying passage R1 and when the abutting member 45 pressed by the sheet P turns to a sheet front-edge detecting position by the detecting means 46 and 45a, the sheet P abuts on the abutting section 45b substantially rectangularly.
