description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection method and a detector of a hard aerial line support insulator for easily detecting the support insulator of a hard trolley wire on a measuring vehicle, by obtaining the image of the hard aerial line support insulator while the measuring vehicle is driving. SOLUTION: An image by reflection light from a hard aerial line including the trolley wire and the insulator generated by applying slit-like light essentially vertically to the hard aerial line by crossing the hard aerial line and the insulator for supporting the same is imaged by a camera mounted to the measuring vehicle with a prescribed elevation angle along the advance direction of the measuring apparatus, and the insulator is detected by determining whether an image corresponding to both the end sections of the insulator deviating from the hard aerial line in a prescribed range equivalent to a position in which the insulator is present in reference to the image of the trolley wire is present in the obtained image.
