description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter which suppresses waveform deterioration of an optical signal and in which stable and high quality communication is possible in long-distance transmission by a DWDM (high density wavelength multiplexing transmission) system regarding the optical transmitter of an optical transmission system which transmits the optical signal using an optical fiber. SOLUTION: The optical transmitter 10a which is provided to one end of an optical transmission path 20 for transmitting the optical signal S, outputs the optical signal S and transmits it to the other end of the optical transmission path 20, is provided with a clock oscillator 14 which oscillates an intensity modulation frequency f of the optical signal S and a phase modulator 19 which performs phase modulation of an optical carrier of the optical signal S. The phase modulator 19 periodically performs the phase modulation of the optical carrier based on an addition signal c5 formed by adding a second sine signal c4 with frequency f/2 to a first sine signal c3 with the frequency f.
